A Salute to Hometown Heros

Just as I finished getting the girls ready for church, the phone rang and it was Russ. Prior to him leaving for drill, we agreed that we were going to attempt to meet for church during his 'lunch' break. Much to my surprise...and I think his too...he was in the middle of the "Hometown Heroes Salute Campaign". It was a big ta-do which honored the service men and women that served over seas within the last couple of years. The military members weren’t the only ones being honored at the ceremony...the families were being recognized for the sacrifices they’ve had to endure as well. So, instead of meeting at church, he urged us to head up to the base. It was a great event---even though Russ "didn't really know it was going to be such a big deal!" We were thrilled to be a part of it!

At first, Lexie wanted nothing to do with SMILEY, the live cookie from Eat n' Park. Eventually she warmed up to him after she realized he was a cookie...and they had a booth with free samples!
Even though we haven't seen Tangled, Lexie was in awe of the "princess". All of the kids seemed to love her!
As part of the tribute, families were saluted for their efforts---even the littlest family members! Every child was given a pair of honorary dog tags. Lexie proudly wore hers and asked, "Mommy, do you like my new neck-a-waus?"!
After making our way around the hangar and stopping by all of the exhibits/booths, we found our way over to the Eat n' Park cookie decorating table! Lexie was THRILLED she got a chance to make her very own smiley cookie...Olivia on the other hand, just wanted to get down to business!!!
It sure is hard to smile when you are trying to eat a cookie...but Olivia is giving it her best shot, "Cheezzzzzzzzzzzzze"!
